Fisherman rescued after 2 days, 11.5 hours adrift on capsized boat

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines — After sitting on his capsized boat for 2 days and 11.5 hours, a fisherman from Bohol province was rescued by a bunch of fishermen from Southern Leyte on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The rescued fisherman was recognized as Bimbo Sumonod, a 34-year-old resident of Barangay Lungsod-Daan, Mabini city, Bohol, based on the Japanese Visayas Police Regional Workplace.

Sumunod went to sea at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14. At round 7 p.m., he bumped into massive waves and heavy rain that induced his motorized boat to capsize.

He survived by getting up on the now uncovered backside of his overturned boat.
