Pope: Church feels “burden of failure” over indigenous faculties


SAINTE-ANNE-DE-BEAUPRE, Quebec – Pope Francis on Thursday stated the Catholic Church felt “the burden of failure” for its position in working government-backed residential faculties that attempted to wipe out indigenous cultures and have become locations of abuse.

On the penultimate day of his week-long apology tour of Canada, Francis presided at a Mass on the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre exterior Quebec Metropolis and spoke of “the burning questions that this pilgrim Church in Canada is asking.”
